Key Responsibilities
1. Department Management
Lead and manage all pharmacy operations and staff.
Develop departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
Ensure smooth and efficient workflow within the pharmacy.
Monitor departmental performance and implement improvements.
2. Clinical Pharmacy Services
Ensure safe dispensing and administration of medications.
Provide medication-related advice to physicians, nurses, and patients.
Review prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and drug interactions.
Promote rational drug use and patient safety initiatives.
3. Inventory & Supply Chain Management
Oversee procurement, storage, and distribution of medicines and consumables.
Maintain adequate stock levels and prevent shortages.
Monitor expiry dates and minimize wastage.
Negotiate and coordinate with vendors and suppliers.
4. Quality & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with Pharmacy Council regulations, NABH/JCI standards, and government guidelines.
Maintain proper documentation and record keeping.
Conduct regular audits and inspections.
Implement quality assurance and medication safety programs.
5. Staff Management & Development
Recruit, train, and evaluate pharmacy personnel.
Develop staff competency through continuous education programs.
Prepare duty rosters and manage workforce planning.
Foster a positive and professional work environment.
6. Financial Management
Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
Monitor medication utilization and cost-control measures.
Analyse pharmacy revenue, expenses, and profitability.
Support procurement decisions through cost-benefit analysis.
7. Patient Safety & Risk Management
Investigate medication errors and adverse drug reactions.
Implement corrective and preventive actions.
Develop risk mitigation strategies related to medication management.
Participate in hospital patient safety committees.
8. Interdepartmental Coordination
Collaborate with medical, nursing, and administrative departments.
Participate in hospital committees and clinical meetings.
Support accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
Master’s degree in pharmacy, Hospital Administration, or related field preferred.
Registered Pharmacist with the relevant Pharmacy Council.
Experience
8–15 years of pharmacy experience.
Minimum 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role within a hospital pharmacy.
