Job Description
• Assess patients’ physical and psychological condition throughout the BMT process
• Monitor vital signs, intake/output, laboratory results, and clinical status
• Identify and promptly report signs of infection, bleeding, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), or transplant-related complications
• Provide symptom management for pain, nausea, mucositis, fatigue, and other side effects.
• Maintain strict protective isolation and aseptic techniques
• Administer Chemotherapy, immunosuppressive agents, blood products, IV fluids, and supportive medications as prescribed
• Care for central venous catheters (Hickman, PICC, Port) following sterile protocols.
• Assist during stem cell infusion and monitor patients for infusion reactions
• Monitor for adverse drug reactions and transfusion reactions
• Provide nutritional support guidance in collaboration with dietitians
• Educate patients and visitors on hygiene, isolation, and safety measures
• Ensure safe handling and disposal of cytotoxic medications and waste
• Accurately document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses
• Communicate patient condition effectively to physicians and multidisciplinary team members
• Provide clear handover during shift changes and patient transfers
• Educate patients and families on the BMT process, medications, infection prevention, and home care
• Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families throughout treatment
• Follow hospital policies, BMT protocols, and ethical standards of nursing practice
• Participate in unit-based training, audits, and quality improvement activities
• Maintain professional competency and required certifications
• Monitor for early and late transplant-related complications.
• Implement neutropenic precautions and strict aseptic techniques
• Provide ongoing symptom management (pain, mucositis, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue)
• Support engraftment monitoring and recovery phase care
• Enforce strict infection control measures including hand hygiene and isolation protocols
• Educate patients, families, and visitors on infection prevention and protective isolation
• Monitor environmental cleanliness and air-quality requirements (HEPA filtration where applicable)
• Ensure patient safety measures including fall prevention and medication safety
• Recognize and respond to medical emergencies including sepsis, bleeding, respiratory distress, and cardiac arrest
• Initiate emergency protocols and assist in advanced life support as required
• Escalate care promptly and coordinate patient transfer to ICU when indicated.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive nursing documentation
• Communicate patient progress, concerns, and complications to physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in clinical rounds, care planning meetings, and handovers.Location
